To commemorate Women’s History Month, the WSO’s long awaited world premier of the Suffragette Symphony will be Saturday, March 12, 2022 at John F. Welsh Auditorium at 7:30pm! The WSO commissioned the symphony by American composer Stephanie Ann Boyd in 2019 to correspond with the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage nationwide and the 150th in Wyoming. The focal point of the evening will be the original composition Julia Louisa Esther. Stephanie Ann Boyd traveled to Wyoming not only to hear the orchestra perform, but to experience vast swaths of our landscapes and communities, and speak to local historians and Wyoming women. To round out this unique concert, the WSO will perform Florence Price’s Dances in the Canebrakes and selections from Bizet’s Carmen Suite, highlighting women and their experiences. Join the composer and Christopher Dragon for a reception immediately following the concert at Casper College’s Gateway Building to celebrate this exciting landmark piece! Can’t attend in person? The event will be available via FREE livestream on the WSO website on Saturday at 7:30PM as well as a rebroadcast on Sunday at 2:00PM. Our Saturday morning dress rehearsal is at 11:00 AM with admittance of $10 for a family or free with the donation of a canned food item to Wyoming Food for Thought. Tickets to the concert, dress rehearsal or livestream can be purchased on the WSO website, by phone, or at the WSO office. This will be a full capacity concert, so we ask that you wear a mask while inside the venue.
