The Sixth U.S. Infantry living history group will interpret one of the more dynamic periods of Wyoming history: the 1860’s. This decade saw the replacement of regular United States military troops with volunteer infantry and cavalry regiments at a time of rising tensions with Native Americans across the west. Small detachments of regular and volunteer troops struggled to maintain the Oregon and California routes by providing escort and policing duty to west-bound emigrants.
