Repertory Dance Theatre (RDT), founded in 1966 in Salt Lake City, Utah, is the nation’s oldest and most successful repertory dance company.
For 51 years RDT has pushed the boundaries of modern dance, while preserving and celebrating its legacy. Known worldwide for its collection of dance treasures, RDT is both a museum and contemporary gallery representing the scope and diversity of modern dance, past and present–from the early pioneers of the art form to today’s cutting edge choreographers.
New viewers often ask us at RDT what to expect from an RDT performance. We tell them grace and athleticism, beauty and power. Beyond that, we tell them to embrace the unexpected. So, what is RDT Dance all about? Simply said, we are about art. Art in motion, expressed through our bodies as modern dance. Art that in its immediacy and intimacy can be both thrilling and profound. Art that challenges you, and art you won’t see coming.
RDT’s eclectic and entertaining concert in Casper, Wyoming will feature the work of three renowned choreographers, William (Bill) Evans, Joanie Smith and Danny Shapiro. Highlights will include:
“CRIPPLED UP BLUES and other tales of Deseret” pairs choreographer and RDT alum William (Bill) Evans and Emmy Award-winning musician/folklorist Hal Cannon. Both Evans and Cannon are native Utahns, and have a deep love for the history and landscape of the region. They bring their artistic sensibilities into focus around stories of the unique places and the people that are Utah’s heritage.
“BOLERO” by Joanie Smith & Daniel Shapiro features the hypnotic music of Ravel to explore the power of community and the endless nature of physical struggle. “Bolero is a thrill ride of a dance about the dynamic tensions that define the human experience.” The Star Tribune (Minneapolis)
