The War Between the States caused a drastic reduction in the number of regular United States troops on the frontier. Volunteer troops, along with captured Confederate soldiers known as “Galvanized Yankees” were stationed along the Oregon/California Route. This little remembered but colorful period of Wyoming history will be highlighted throughout the weekend.
